Walthamstow – community hall fire

Ten fire engines and around 72 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a community hall on Hoe Street in Walthamstow. Half of the first floor and most of the roof was damaged by the blaze.

Station Manager Clive Robinson who was at the scene said:

“The fire has severely damaged the two storey banqueting hall. Firefighters have managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings. Around 20 people from neighbouring houses were evacuated as a precaution and have been allowed back into their properties.”

The Brigade was called at 0115 and the fire was under control by 0447. Fire crews from Chingford, Woodford, Walthamstow, Stratford, Homerton, Leyton, Leytonstone and Tottenham fire stations were at the scene.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
