Fire crews were called to a fire at a flat on Spencer Road, Mitcham in the early hours of this morning.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the bedroom but there was heavy smoke throughout the flat.
A man left the building before the Brigade arrived. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0543 and the fire was under control by 0618. Fire crews from Norbury and Mitcham fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
