Dagenham - rubbish fire

Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a fire in a large rubbish pile in a recycling warehouse on Chequers Lane in Dagenham, RM9, last night.

The Brigade was called at 2042 and firefighters spent the night tackling small, deep seated pockets of fire within the large pile of rubbish. The fire was brought under control at just after 8am this morning. Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters remain at the scene of the fire this morning.

Firefighters from Romford, Hainault, Barking, Ilford, Stratford, Poplar and Silvertown fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation although at this stage the cause is thought to be accidental.
