Firefighters were called to a fire in a block of flats on Potters Road, Meadway, New Barnet, EN5 last night.

The fire affected a flat on the second floor of the three storey block. Sadly when they entered the property, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found the body of a man in the front room.

Around 20 other people were evacuated from the building. There were no other injuries and the fire was confined to the flat where it started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade’s fire investigation team and the Metropolitan Police.
