Around seven hundred people were evacuated from a five storey office building on London Road in Elephant and Castle in Southwark, SE1 this afternoon.
Firefighters were called to reports of a smell of gas and an alarm going off inside the building. The building was evacuated before crews arrived at the scene. There were no reports of injuries. Firefighters wearing protective suits carried out tests and found no indication of any harmful gases or chemicals.Five fire engines and a range of specialist fire vehicles attended the scene. The Brigade was called at 1417 and the incident was over by 1552.
