Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers attended a blaze on an industrial estate on Dayton Drive in Erith last night.
A large amount of scrap and tyres were alight which caused a lot of smoke but thankfully the fire wasn't close to a residential area. There were also numerous gas cylinders which can explode when hot and so crews cooled them down and moved them to a safe place.
The Brigade was called at 1838 and the fire was declared under control at 0247. Engines from Orpington, Biggin Hill, Plumstead, Erith, Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Beckenham fire stations were at the scene.
Crews worked hard throughout the night to contain the fire and they are expected to remain there throughout the day to dampen down any deep seated pockets of fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
