Fire in derelict building in Whitechapel

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to a fire in a derelict building on Osborne Street in Whitechapel E1yesterday evening.

Half of the first floor and part of the roof were damaged by the fire.

Watch Manager Paul Fox from Whitechapel fire stations was at the scene and said:

“ The crews did a fantastic job and stopped the fire from spreading. The damage of the fire was contained to the first floor and a small part of the roof.”

The Brigade was called at 1944 and the fire was under control by 2106.

Crews from Whitechapel, Shoreditch and Shadwell fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
