Six people rescued from old people’s home blaze in Penge

Firefighters rescued six elderly residents from an old people’s home on Derwent Road in Penge last night. Three people were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A small part of a corridor on the third floor was damaged by the fire and there was a large amount of smoke damage in the surrounding area.

Four fire engines went to the scene with 21 firefighters and officers from Woodside, Dockhead, Forest Hill, and West Norwood fire stations. The LFB was called at 2205 and the fire was under control at 2240.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
