Scrap metal fire in Barking

Forty firefighters tackled a blaze at a scrap metal yard on River Road in Barking today. A large pile of steel swarf (scrap metal) was alight. Part of the 500 tonne pile was damaged in the blaze, but no injuries were reported.

Seven fire engines from Dagenham, Ilford, East Ham, Plaistow, and Bethnal Green fire stations were at the scene, along with the fireboat. The Brigade was called at 0911 and the fire was under control at 1259.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation by LFB's fire investigation team.
