Firefighters have praised a mother for quickly getting out with her young children after a toaster caught fire in her flat in Abbey Wood in south east London last night. The fire damaged a small part of the kitchen and the whole flat on Federation Road was full of smoke.
Watch Manager Peter Moore, who was at the scene said:
“The woman did everything right, she got out, stayed out and called the fire brigade out. We arrived within five minutes and quickly got the fire under control. Had we been called any later this could have been a much bigger fire. The woman, her five year old boy and a young baby were all uninjured.”
The Brigade was called at 2059 and the fire was under control by 2117. Fire crews from Plumstead fire station attended the scene.
