East Finchley - 40 firefighters tackle house blaze on The Bishops Avenue

Eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters have been called to a house fire on The Bishops Avenue in East Finchley this morning. An aerial appliance is also attending the incident.

The fire has affected the property’s staircase, first floor and roof. Three adults managed to get out of the house before the Brigade arrived.

Station Manager Laurie Kenny who is at the scene said: “Our crews worked really hard to get this fire under control. We’re making good progress and as well as the eight fire engines that we have got down here we are using an aerial appliance to fight the fire from above.”

The Brigade was called at 0453 and the fire was brought under control by 0712. Fire crews from Finchley, Barnet, Willesden, Hornsey, West Hampstead, Wembley and Edmonton fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage. Crews are likely to remain at the scene throughout the morning.
