Firefighters attend shop fire in Stoke Newington

Crews were called to tackle in a shop on Stamford Hill, Stoke Newington in the early hours of this morning. Twenty people from the flats above were evacuated before the arrival of the Brigade, and fortunately no one was injured. Part of the shop was damaged and there was smoke throughout the building.

Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from Stoke Newington were at the scene. The Brigade was called at 0058 and the fire was under control at 0205.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is thought to be accidental.
