Thirty firefighters were called to a house fire on Thornhill Road in Ickenham near Uxbridge in the early hours of this morning. The fire destroyed the roof of the house and large parts of both the first and ground floors. A family of four escaped before the arrival of the Brigade, and no one was injured.
Watch Manager Colin Digby, who was at the scene, said:
“The fire was intense and crews worked hard to bring it under control as quickly as possible. There was a lot of smoke and flames, so firefighters did very well in the challenging conditions. It’s very lucky that the family escaped uninjured.”
Six fire engines from Hillingdon, Ruislip, Northolt, Hayes, and Harrow fire stations were at the scene. The Brigade was called at 0240 and the fire was under control at 0637.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
