Six people escape bungalow fire in Hillingdon

04 May 2012

Six people escaped from a fire in a chalet bungalow on Old Mill Lane in Uxbridge UB8 in the early hours of this morning.

Part of a first floor flat in the bungalow was damaged by the fire. A man was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

Watch Manager Gary Saunders from Hillingdon fire station said:

“Our crews did an amazing job and worked incredibly hard to get this fire under control. There was one man who was  suffering from smoke inhalation and we provided first aid and gave him oxygen. This incident could have ended tragically but thankfully the bungalow had several smoke alarms. These all went off and everyone inside  got out in time. This is why it’s so important to have a smoke alarm and test it regularly. They really can save  your life.“

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Heathrow, Hillingdon and Hayes fire stations were called to the fire at  0402 and the fire was under control by 0520.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
