Fire at landfill site in Rainham

01 June 2012

Six fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to a fire at a landfill site on Ferry Lane in Rainham, RM13 in Essex on Friday 1 June. A waste processing plant and part of a conveyor belt was damaged by fire. The Brigade received a number of calls and smoke could be seen from as far away as Canary Wharf.

The Brigade was called at 10.30 and the fire was brought under control at 1314. Firefighters from Wennington, Dagenham, Barking and Hornchurch fire stations were at the scene. It is not thought the fire was started deliberately but the cause is still under investigation.
