Ten fire engines and around 50 firefighters were called to a fire at a railway arch on Debnams Road in Bermondsey this morning. Part of the ground floor within the arch was damaged by the blaze, as was around half of the internal mezzanine floor.
Around 15 people were evacuated from adjacent flats as a precaution.
The Brigade was called at 0343 and the fire was under control by 1333. Firefighters from Dockhead, Old Kent Road, Deptford, Peckham, New Cross and Southwark fire stations are at the scene. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
