Twelve people have been rescued by London Fire Brigade crews following a fire at a shop and dwellings in St.Giles’ Circus, Holborn , this evening. Four men and four women were recued by ladder from the roof, fourth floor and first floor of the five storey building and a further four women were helped to safety from the ground floor by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. All were suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation and treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews
Six fire engines and over 30 firefighters fought the blaze, which damaged the whole of an electrical intake room on the ground floor. The cause is being investigated.
The Brigade was called at 1912 and the fire was under control by 2040.
