Islington – fire in shop with dwellings above

Two fire engines and around ten firefighters attended a fire in a three storey shop with flats above it on Hoxton Street in Islington, yesterday.

A stairwell leading from the first to the second floors was partly damaged by fire. A man was rescued from the second floor by firefighters using a ladder and was treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 2123 and the fire was under control by 2232. Crews from Shoreditch station were in attendance.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
