Six people died following a serious fire in a tower block in Havil Street, Camberwell on Friday evening. A further 12 people were taken to hospital and around 30 people were rescued. A large number of people were relocated to a nearby rest centre.
Eighteen fire engines, a range of special appliances and over 100 firefighters attended the incident.
The fire damaged a large part of the 14 floor block of flats. Fire crews equipped with extended duration breathing apparatus carried out an exhaustive search of the building. The Brigade received the first of a large number of calls at 1619. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
