I have been an Incident Management Trainer for nearly six years now and not a day goes by where I grow tired of doing this job. I work with a highly motivated team who all want to make a difference to the community and to the people of London.

Before joining the London Fire Brigade I worked for 12 years as a telephone engineer. After a while I was in need of a more rewarding job and looked to the London Fire Brigade for a new career as I had always admired the bravery of firefighters.

I applied to become a trainee firefighter and was lucky enough to be accepted. Over the next few years I progressed to become a crew manager and then to my current role.

My job involves training firefighters to be promoted to crew managers and watch managers. Training takes place at Southwark training centre and Moreton Fire Service College and this is great because I’m not one of those people who can sit in an office all day. I run scenarios at Moreton which involve real fires and rescues; these exercises are always fun and rewarding as you get the chance to get out there and put your firefighter training to good use. I also give presentations to the firefighters followed by table-top exercises.

Performing my role ensures I keep up with the latest incident management techniques and policies. I enjoy it because I get to meet lots of new people and get a lot of satisfaction from seeing firefighters develop in their career, ultimately leading to a safer London.

Working for the London Fire Brigade is an honour and I feel proud to help the public in the capital.
