London Fire Brigade

Cart marking @ Guildhall Yard

13 July 2016

Hosted by the Worshipful Company of Carmen, the practice of cart marking dates has roots dating back to the 13th century.

Although it is now more ceremonial than in days of yore, vehicles are branded with a red-hot iron, on a wooden plate, with a letter and number, as a reminder of the ancient tradition.

The Brigade will be taking along a brand new fire engine, the Mercedes Atego 1327F, as well as a vintage 1937 Leyland TLM Metz turntable pump escape, which served in the Brigade until 1964, to be marked as part of the celebrations.

This will be the first opportunity for members of the public to see our latest fire engine.

Where and when

The free event takes place at the Guildhall Yard on Wednesday, 13 July 2016 starting at 1030.
